Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala have been the most heavily affected countries by this category four hurricane leaving 90 people dead, 113 missing, and over 210,000 evacuated from their homes.<\/p>\n<p>This hurricane left many families in helpless situations without a home, and countless cities flooded and destroyed. Landslides have been causing mud to pile up to 50 feet in many places. These catastrophes have affected about 4.6 million people in total.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so unfortunate that Central America has suffered so much loss, and families are being torn apart because of the disasters,\u201d Junior, Sandrene Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>While Central America was recovering from Hurricane Eta, tragedy struck again. Lota, another category four hurricane, reached the shores on November 17th. These countries were not well equipped to handle a hurricane, let alone two consecutive ones. These life-threatening storms have left an immense amount of damage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor them to have been hit by another hurricane, while barely being able to recover from the first one is unimaginable,\u201d Senior Kaylee Torres said.<\/p>\n<p>UNICEF has appealed for $42.6 million to fulfill the critical humanitarian needs of the people in Central America. Relief agencies such as Red Cross, CARE, and U.N. have sent teams to help communities with the immediate impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt brings me joy to see that so many organizations are coming together to help out the countries in Central America,\u201d Freshmen, Jasmine de la Cruz said. \u201cThey are in dire need, and I hope they will recover quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During these harsh moments, as families mourn their loved ones, they prepare to overcome the hardships that they recently faced. Central America continues to recuperate from the disastrous events they\u2019ve endured the past two weeks.
