Even with such a young roster, this is one of the best teams Deerfield has produced in recent years. They will go into the playoffs with a great mindset, knowing they can compete with any team matched up against them. The Bucks fought hard throughout the season, but the last three games have been rough, losing to South Plantation 16-0, Taravella 10-0, and McArthur 10-0. The outcome however doesn\u2019t reflect how Deerfield\u2019s season has been in the 18 previous games. Win or lose, the Bucks fight to the finish. “Winning 12 games, which Deerfield Baseball hasn’t done in a while, was the highlight of our season,\u201d junior Roodley Sanon said. \u201cAlso, beating teams people thought we had no chance against, showing how competitive Deerfield can really be.” The baseball season has exceeded their expectations and showed extreme progress. The team agrees that each player has improved mentally and physically throughout the victorious season. They credit part of their improvement to how they react to their losses. “We take it as a learning experience and see how we can compete better next time,” junior left-fielder Blake Martin said. This strategy has worked for the Bucks from the beginning of the season to the playoffs. Thanks to impressive pitching, savvy base stealing, and electric team chemistry, they held their own against seemingly ruthless teams. “The most positive element of our team has to be the atmosphere we bring out to every game and practice with preparation and team building,” Sanon said. The Bucks are heading to Coral Glades for the first round of the district playoffs. When they met in the regular season, Coral Glades won 10-0, but Deerfield knows what to expect now. Whatever the outcome may be, the Bucks will take this as a learning experience and go even farther next season.
