Deerfield Beach High is growing, and with that comes a few new regulations for all staff, students, and teachers. As students might have noticed, the school has had a few lockdown drills already, ranging from tornado, evacuation, and code red. Although these drills are county issued and a standard procedure every year, in favor of the new plain language emergency responders have determined to use, these will happen more often than usual, promptly five per month. They are giving everyone a chance to practice this method.<\/p>\n
The plain language being used is called Standard Response Protocol. \u201cHOLD\u201d means stay in the classroom\/area and clear the halls. \u201cSECURE\u201d means get inside and lock outside doors. \u201cLOCKDOWN\u201d means locks, lights, and out of sight. \u201cEVACUATE\u201d implies the announced location. \u201cSHELTER\u201d means using the announced hazard and strategy.<\/p>\n
Due to the rising epidemic of school threats in Florida and across the country, prioritizing kids’ safety on campus has been accounted for this significant reason. For instance, this includes no wandering beyond the designated zones during lunch which are the cafeteria,<\/p>\n
outside the cafe, 500 building breezeway, 900 building breezeway, the courtyard, and library.<\/p>\n
IDs are heavily enforced and encouraged for students to identify who belongs in the school and who isn\u2019t. Teachers and administrators will constantly check this at all times.<\/p>\n
Disciplinary-related rules have also been enforced. To be able to leave study hall to another class, students have to scan a QR code provided by a teacher and wait for approval by the administration, unlike last year when a teacher would write a pass. Another is the 6-minute interval in between classes instead of 8 minutes to prevent students from lingering in the hallways for more extended periods than they should be.<\/p>\n
Perhaps students have already heard about these changes from their teachers or classmates. Nonetheless, these need to be discussed for the safety of everyone involved within the school.<\/p>\n\n\n
