Fresh food drive thru<\/h2>\n\n\n

\"\"Nonprofit organizations like FLIPANY and Farm Share have teamed up with Deerfield Beach High for the 19th annual Healthy Food and Relief Drive. FLIPANY secures access to healthy meals, provides hands-on nutrition education, and mentors youth in physical education programs. Farm Share ensures that no Floridian goes hungry, and no food goes to waste.<\/p>\n

The goal is to get as many students as possible to contribute to donations and help people consume nourishing meals. As well as donating extra supplies they can\u2019t get their hands on with ease. This year, a point system will be used to calculate collection results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Items valued at 1 point each are canned, boxed, or bagged foods. Toiletries valued at 2 points are deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, or feminine products. Special need items valued at 3 points are Kraft mac & cheese, Chef Boyardee pasta, protein bars, granola bars, Boost, Pedialyte, or Ensure protein drinks, canned milk, powdered milk, canned meats, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, peanut butter\/jelly, garbage bags, and cleaning supplies.<\/p>\n

Deerfield Beach High\u2019s very own Beach House Office Manager and Free & Reduced Lunch Liaison, Sharon Rodriguez, set up this drive-through distribution for the families in the community as well as students and staff. Although, this idea was first derived<\/a> \u00a0from Sharon Paslowski from Deerfield Beach Middle. This is a completely non-contact way of receiving healthy and fresh food. Each parcel will be delivered to a car without requiring anybody to get out. Also, students that help distribute the boxes to vehicles will be rewarded with service hours.<\/p>\n

The first drive-thru for the school year will be on October 28th. To pick up a box, people must arrive at Deerfield Beach Highschool from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year, boxes of goods will be handed to the first 40 people. So, the earlier, the better.<\/p>\n

People that arrive after the last box has been given away, are encouraged by staff and students to head toward Deerfield Middle School. They will be handing out the same boxes just at a later time.<\/p>\n\n\n
