MJROTC competes countywide<\/h2>\n\n\n

\"\"Deerfield Beach High School Marine Corp Junior ROTC (MJROTC) starts off the new year with a competition for the finest talents swept with discipline, training, coordination, and leadership<\/a>. The meeting began on February 4th at Monarch High School to compete with other JROTC drill teams in Broward County. The schools that they competed against included different military branches like the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.<\/p>\n

The groups all competed in different events including physical training (PT), color guard, armed platoon, armed and unarmed squad, unarmed platoon, and more. Cadets are tested for their cooperation with drill commands and the flexibility of their knowledge<\/a>. With confidence, the DBHS MCJROTC went up against nine other schools and came out with four medals.<\/p>\n

The competition started with the first event of the day, PT, counting only four cadets consisting of two girls and two boys. Rising from the kettle bell and sit-up portion of the event, these cadets earned three medals for the team overall.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel as though I prepared only for the kettle belt run and the sit-ups and hydration, however, I wasn\u2019t prepared for the mile run (endurance),\u201d said DBHS cadet staff Sergeant Barksdale after being asked if they felt prepared enough for the competition. \u201cMany are skilled in different categories and the goal is to find the best fit for each student resulting in the best of the best competing in each section.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last but not least, a medal was successfully received by the female<\/a> armed platoon placing them in 3rd place. More cadets also practiced army color guard for a week to partake in a separate event as color guards don\u2019t abide by military branches.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like we could\u2019ve worked together a little more, but we did good and I’m proud of the cadets,\u201d said DBHS freshman cadet Loida Nina.<\/p>\n

Through all the sweat and hard work during that day, the DBHS MJROTC are proud of their results, just like the Marching Bucks were with their results,<\/a> and enjoying the official experience outside of school. Earning a total of four medals made the wait worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n
