Why Sports Matter

How sports shape Health, Character, and Community

Sports play a huge role in everyday life, bringing students and communities together. While teaching lessons that go far beyond the game for all ages.

“They help everyone be proactive and bring the whole community together and keep kids busy and out of trouble.” Sophomore varsity volleyball player Wendall Baxter said.

Sports keep kids active and connected to their community, which is beneficial. Sports help with time management, a good attitude, teamwork, and goals. Creating lifelong friends, bringing families together to support teams, pride, and unity are all parts of sports. Sports are more than a team winning, losing, or scoring.

“They make people work together and work as a team. No matter what you feel off the court, it brings people together on the court or field,” Baxter said.

Being an athlete, going to long practices and tough games, teaches communication and depends on one another. Trust and teamwork make a team reach its goals and succeed, not one’s talent. This attitude can carry into a person’s everyday life, not just sports, but classrooms, jobs, relationships, and much more. Learning not just to pick yourself up but your teammates is all about the game. Getting past upsets and challenges is learning from your mistakes.

In the end, sports matter. They shape a person, build character, strengthen communities, and teach lessons that people will remember for life.
