A New Generation of Scholars

National Honors Society Accepting Applications Now

As any Broward County school, The National Honor Society has been part of Deerfield Beach High’s extracurricular program for many years and as the current members, now seniors, approach graduation invitations to join in occupying spots that the previous students formerly held. Selection is based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character, but time is running out for those upperclassmen.

NHS is a student organization held in schools where students are recognized for their achievements. Some members have been actively invited, while others have to send an application for submission and review. Becoming a member means that a student excels in the ‘pillars’ previously mentioned (scholarship, leadership, service, and character) and academic performance. This foundation of the NHS’ fundamentals had been established since its beginning in 1921.

Once a member, students work on enhancing the four main characteristics of the NHS within themselves. They would dedicate time to community service and service projects during or outside school and aid college and future financial planning. In addition, it is possible to gain college scholarships and admission after becoming involved with the NHS if on a college application.

Class of 2022 or 2023 members find themselves interested but did not receive an invitation. They must have the requirements of 3.0 or higher GPA and 30 documented service hours fulfilled. Those able to qualify can get the application and invitation in Mrs. Arce’s room, 913 and must be submitted Wednesday, September 29th at 3:00pm.
