DBHS black history month showcase
Deerfield Beach High School is celebrating Black History Month with many fun events throughout February. These events helped students and teachers learn about and honor the achievements and culture of Black history. Black History Month is a time in February when people get the chance to celebrate and learn more about Black history through the achievements and contributions they made to the world.
The celebration starts with a Cultural Fashion Show on Wednesday, February 5, in the rotunda during A and B lunches. Students are shown traditional clothing from different African and Caribbean cultures, helping others to see and appreciate the beauty of these cultural styles. In the second week, the celebration continued with Dancing with Soul on Thursday, February 13, also in the rotunda during A and B lunches. Students performed traditional Black dances, showing off the soul in each step. Some students even participated in a dance battle, showing off their best moves while the crowd cheered them on.
The next day, Friday, February 14, teachers and staff enjoyed a special luncheon in the Media Center at 1 PM, bringing faculty together and eating food. The third week was a Black Wax Museum on Wednesday, February 19, in the gym during A and B lunches. Students created creative and interactive displays to teach others about important Black figures in history. During the last week of February, the school held a BHM Spirit Week and an Art Expo that showcased Black culture through artwork. The last thing was the Black History Month Showcase on Thursday, February 27, in the auditorium during 2nd and 4th periods, with an evening show at 6 PM.
Thanks to these events, students had the chance to celebrate and learn more about Black history in a fun and meaningful way.
