Across the Spider-Verse

Upcoming Spider-Man movie

It is official, the new animated Spider-Man movie is in the works. Fans have been raving about it since the first trailer dropped in December 2022 and the media buzz about it has not ceased since.

To recap, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the story of a teenager named Miles Morales after he is bitten by a radioactive spider. His newfound powers could not have come at a better time when Miles’ home was threatened by a multi-versal threat. With the help of Spider-People from different dimensions, Miles defeats the big, bad Kingpin and saves the multiverse. Or rather, the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse takes place two to three years after the events of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Miles is having difficulty keeping his superhero identity a secret from his parents. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Gwen, Miles is thrust back into the Spider-Verse.

He is introduced to a bunch of new Spider-People including a pregnant Spider-Woman. All these Spider-People have their different ways of tackling problems, and it gives Miles a run for his money.

Now, a new and greater threat arises. The Spiders clash on how to handle it, which causes Miles to find himself pitted against them. Now, he must reevaluate his definition of being a hero to save his friends, family, and city.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has a star-studded cast, which includes Issa Rae as Spider-Woman and Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk. Hailee Steinfeld and Shameik Moore return as Gwen and Miles, as well as Jake Jackson as Peter B. Parker. For the villains’ castings, the man who voiced Green Goblin in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Jorma Taccone, will return as Vulture.

Across the Spider-Verse is going to have big shoes to fill coming out after the success of Into the Spider-Verse. Sequels tend to have a reputation for not being as good as the original.

“I was hugely excited when the announcement came out because the first one is so iconic and good and if this one is emotionally impactful and motivational then I’m going to watch it a thousand times over,” said Deerfield Beach High School freshman Andrew Peterson.

Hopefully, the movie will not fall victim to the curse of sequels. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on June 2nd, just before school ends. Before watching this movie, they can stream all the live-action Spider-Man movies on Disney Plus. Since it will be a summer release, fans are going to flock to theaters for months. Now remember, anyone can wear the mask.
