Recognizing DBHS’ volleyball captain
The Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) claims the largest high school athletic conference in Broward County and the second largest in Florida. The BCAA recognizes the work ethic and accomplishments of young athletes. However, they regard education with higher value and emphasize secure learning and success for aspiring players. As such, they have presented Deerfield Beach High School athlete Nolan Debrocq with a generous award.
Hosted twice annually, the Broward Scholar Athletes Banquet grants seven students represented under their BCAA school a keepsake gift. Additionally, the BCAA distributes over $100,000 in scholarships to scholar-athletes. Of the selected few, DBHS volleyball captain Nolan Debrocq was recognized by the association for his achievements and community contributions. An outstanding $1,000 yearly renewable scholarship was awarded to aid his post-secondary endeavors.
The prestigious accolade represents sportsmanship, camaraderie, talent, and all the essential traits of a committed leader. But above all, it acknowledges role models on the field who dedicate themselves to excellent performance in education and sport. Scouted students are required to be a varsity letter winner, have a minimum 3.2 GPA, be a high school senior, and project a committed effort to their school and community. Athletes must also be nominated by their school principal.
Debrocq illustrates every quality of a leader as the head of DBHS’ volleyball team. On the court or off, he strives to achieve his best and overcome any challenge of the game. As captain, he guides his team with a cool head, being on top of every player and ascertaining any variables. He also tries to be an exceptional mentor for freshman and rising players.
“Every game there’s a challenge,” said DBHS senior Nolan Debrocq. “We just have to overcome them, do the best of our ability, and get past it.”
Debrocq is also an active member of his community, supporting DBHS’ yearbook as editor-in-chief and the ePathfinder newspaper as sports section editor. In addition, he serves as the P.A. announcer of the home football, baseball, and boys’ and girls’ basketball games for DBHS. As a participating member of the National Honor Society, he also supports the school and city through various events and projects.
With his scholarship, Debrocq plans to attend FAU and major in sports management. His ultimate goal surrounds sports leadership as he considers coaching, athletic directing, and such. As a young and aspiring player with exemplary skill, Nolan portrays a high standard of academic preparation to succeed in his endeavor. In the same vein, he wants to set an example for young athletes following the shared goal.
“Stay on one track and go for it. Pick something you want to do and make it your dream,” said Debrocq.
High hopes and bright prospects are ahead for the aspiring player. In his efforts to succeed and mentor students in the future, Nolan also inspires a team of individuals striving to accomplish the same qualities. As a massive support to his community and an excellent player, he presents DBHS with another soon-to-be alumnus with promise.
