Readers Linked to Academic Success

Reading books is an enjoyable hobby any person can take part in. Not only is it fun, but it also helps develop and strengthen the brain in many ways. One of the main ways is inside classrooms all around the globe. It builds reading comprehension, increases background knowledge, and evolves one’s vocabulary skills.

Reading is one of the most important factors for student success. Students become creative and open to a whole new world when they open those pages. They become exposed to a variety of things such as different cultures, people, historical events, and more. By focusing their abilities through reading, it drives kids and adults down a path of improved focus and concentration skills.

Reading improves memory by increasing mental stimulation and allowing new neurons to start flowing in the brain. The more one reads, the simpler it becomes to recall and retain certain things.

Not only does it help academically, but it also helps psychologically. Reading is highly important for contributing to growth. It reduces stress levels and brings the person to a peaceful state of mind.

Another benefit is that reading decreases symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Reading could have physical, psychological, educational, and spiritual benefits.

“Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Whenever I need a breather some days or at night a book always keeps me company.”, said freshman Annabella Hurtado.

The benefits that come with opening a book spread over a vast variety. Such a simple task can have a major effect on anyone. No one should be afraid to open a book and learn something new. A small sentence off a page could have a lifetime effect on anyone.
