Bucks Coming Back

Returning to FSPA

The Bucks have finally gone back to the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA). The last time DBHS had went to the FSPA was before covid hit. FSPA is an organization for high school students that are interested in journalism and for students that are in the school media programs like the Communication Broadcasting Arts (CBA) program. At FSPA, they focus on journalism, broadcasting, and digital media. It is all about learning, workshops, and competitions.

FSPA contest is every year around autumn. The contest is about competing with other schools and what they do in the contest is commercials, recordings, editing, etc. For the Bucks, the FSPA contest was crucial for them because they knew that if they would win, they would’ve had opportunities in more things ahead. The Bucks were assigned to do a commercial which included recordings and editing. They had tough opponents, and they did not get the win, but they knew it was not all about winning it was about learning more about what they are doing and having fun.

“Even though we did not win it is not about winning it is about learning and working together as a group, and everyone puts their effort other than that I think next year we definitely could win if we can keep being a team” says DBHS tv production teacher, Mrs. Ragnarsson

The biggest part about the FSPA is working as a team. The DBHS team learned that because even though the Bucks did not win, they learned things that could help them win next time. The FSPA may be challenging since they do not want to mess anything up in their submissions and a lot of pressure because if students do something wrong in the photos or videos you get points taken off since the judges assigns a numeric score to each one. The attendees have it in their mind as they use their skills.

The FSPA is significant for all high school students that are interested in journalism, writing, design, photography, art, broadcast, and multimedia journalism. The FSPA welcomes all the high school students to join in the contests that are interested in it and these students must give their everything that they know to win. The judges helps these students, teach them new things, and overall become better, so come on and join the FSPA contest next year with the Bucks!
