Bucks In Full Swing

The DBHS golf team sharpens skills for a promising season

At Deerfield Beach High School, golf is not the first sport that comes to mind when you think about all the athletics at DBHS, but this year, there are some high expectations. As the 2024-2025 season was one to remember, with the team going on to win districts and went on to go and play in regionals, the Bucks are proving that the course deserves just as much attention as the court or the field “We go to the range and practice hitting and getting more consistent and putting so we can save strokes and achieve the lowest score possible,” Junior Wendell Baxter said.

Time at the range is focused on building consistency in each player with each swing. While the players pay extra attention to putting, it helps them save strokes and achieve the lowest score possible. In golf, scoring is based on the number of strokes a player takes to complete each hole. Each hole in a round has a set standard called par, which is the expected number of strokes a golfer should need. Unlike other sports where the highest score wins, in golf, the lowest score is the best outcome for a player.

“So far this season, I think we are doing just fine for the amount of time we have spent golfing,” Baxter said

This season looks to be promising. So far, they have been performing well this season. As more of the season goes on, these bucks are practicing achieving their goals. As this season is in full swing, it is providing the Bucks with a season to change the narrative with golf at Deerfield Beach High School.
