Childhood Revival

Childhood TV shows are returning

2025 is the comeback year for the cartoon world as a few classics are returning to your screens this year and the next. ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, ‘Phineas and Ferb’, ‘Regular Show’, and ‘Adventure Time’ are all coming back this year and next.

‘Amazing World of Gumball’ was discontinued in 2019 with a series finale, but two years later, in 2021, they announced the production of the seventh season. With the plans for a movie coming out based on the series, it has been paused and is expected to be back in production after the anticipated release of season seven of ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’. ‘Phineas and Ferb’ had four seasons throughout 2007-2015. The show is now being revived by Disney, and season 5 will be released on June 5, 2025, with season 6 coming soon. Don’t worry about the authenticity of the show. Dan Povenmire & Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the original creators, are back on the project, and from the reports, there is positive publicity from this.

Cartoon shows returning this year and the next must all be exciting. However, not all fans are on the same page. It is known that the industry is in a bad position with original movies and TV shows. Fans want original entertainment but are being fed the same thing over and over again, whether it’s obvious or coded with new designs and characters. That is the problem for a wide audience, it’s not just an issue with cartoon shows.

However, Rodrigo Avellaneda Jr, a freshman at DBHS, disagrees with the critics and audience conflict with old cartoon TV shows. “I would love to see more of these shows because they build a ton of my childhood. With them coming back, it may impact more generations while making my generation still smile (Avellaneda Jr).”

In this view, new content from childhood cartoon TV shows can still put a smile on our faces and entertain a new audience. The name likely makes a person think that the seasons are formulated to be the same each time, but there’s always a new story and adventure to tell. An old childhood TV show can have a lot of original content within the show, but audiences and critics seem to be conflicted due to the long run of one’s show. From the honest perspective of a freshman at DBHS, Rodrigo, he explains almost perfectly. Character arc, storyline, goal, and new details, all play into a perfectly new season of a show, it may not be as original as some may want, but there are new things in each episode, so enjoy it. Do you like the idea of childhood shows coming back or do you want new and original cartoon TV shows?
