Claws Cure Blues

The impact of pets on mental health

Having a pet can be very touching; from a tiny hamster to the biggest dogs. Regardless of size, pets can have an impact on the owner. Many people find their pets to be a sense of comfort. When they have a bad day, sometimes all someone needs is to cuddle in bed with a pet to melt all those worries away.

“Pets provide you with companionship and support, such as mental health. If you’re lazy or suffering from sadness, depression, or even lack of sociality, maybe you’ll reconsider having a pet there for you. You can change all of that, ” said DBHS freshman Marie Joseph.

To many people, pets are not just animals; they are their best buddies who are there when things get tough. Many statistics show that pet owners have found themselves in better moods after owning a pet of any kind. Pets have also been found to help with anxiety or depressive issues.

Along with mental issues, pets can help with physical health. Not just with service dogs or emotional support animals, sometimes all it takes is taking a pet on a walk. Many households with pets like dogs and cats experience increased physical activity from walking around the neighborhood or playing with their pets.

It is not all good to own a pet; it can get stressful having to keep up with the animal’s needs, especially if the household already has kids or other living animals. Before getting a pet, one should make sure they can keep up with their needs and have a stable household. Pets are like kids. Although they can increase productivity and bring joy, they are still a handful of work that some people can not keep up with.

No matter the size of the animal, what matters is the impact they can bring. Having a pet is not just a one-sided relationship; it is a mutually beneficial connection for the pet and the owner. The owner gives shelter, food, love, and comfort to the animal, and the pet can do the same; providing a presence, comfort, and even love.
