Magnet programs host open houses

To start off the new year and semester, Deerfield Beach High is hosting the magnet open house on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 p.m. DBHS offers three different programs: International Baccalaureate (IB), Communications and Broadcast Arts (CBA), and Urban Teaching Academic Program (UTAP). The open houses will be held for all incoming freshmen, parents, or recurring students that are interested in joining.

These open houses are hosted as a way to showcase all that DBHS has to offer and encourage teens outside the school zone for Deerfield Beach High School to apply here. Despite living outside the school zone, magnet programs are open for all kids that live in Broward County. If transportation is a problem, buses are offered when an attending student is in any of the magnet programs; as long as the location is more than 2 miles away from the school.

Parents and students will first head to the auditorium and talk to administrators for a general introduction to the school. Then, groups will be led to separate sections of the school according to the magnet program. The CBA program open house will be held in corridor 260 on the second floor of the main building as CBA electives are designated only in that hallway.

Moreover, the CBA and UTAP program is unique to DBHS and can only be found in this school. Out of the 1,485 public high schools in the state of Florida, only 40 schools are offering the IB program in total, and 10 reside in Broward County: Deerfield Beach High being one of them.

Magnet program applications are already being accepted until February 1st, 2023. Students can get a head start in the application window now before the open houses. It is highly encouraged to join to get the full experience of walking through the halls of Deerfield Beach High School as an IB, CBA, or UTAP student.
