Diving Into Success

DBHS Expectations for the upcoming swim season

The Bucks are starting this season off with a splash. Diving head first into the deep end, they had their first swim meet against Coral Springs on August 28th. The swimmers are always striving to improve their speed and beat their records. Swimming is an individual sport, so they can neither lose nor win, but they are joined by their coach Mrs. Officer. She is new to coaching, starting in the 2022-2023 season. Mrs. Officer also coaches’ girls’ water polo in the winter.

“The swim committee is supportive and encouraging. As someone who does not like sports, it is a relief that I do not feel like I am being judged by others,” says Savitha Singh. Swimming is an individual sport but with other swimmers by your side, it is a wonderful way to gain self-confidence.

“Since mostly everyone is new to swimming, I hope they learn the proper techniques and don’t get discouraged from low times,” says Zolliet Nguyen. Do not hold your breath if you are betting on perfection, but the Bucks are learning new techniques and are acclimating to this season.

Their next swim meet is September 18th at Deerfield Beach High School against Ely and Nova. Support our bucks as they dive into the competition stroking towards their goals. Stay tuned for their Championships on Saturday, September 28th.
