Empowering the Youth

Scholarship Opportunity for Freshmen

Nearly two million children in Florida are living in poverty and the numbers are continuously rising. These children lack the resources and funds that they need to have a successful education.

Take Stock in Children is a national scholarship program that has been striving since 1995 to battle consistent dropout rates in the public school system due to the lack of financial and emotional support of many students.

Broward County’s Take Stock in Children is opening scholarship applications to current 9th-grade Deerfield Beach High School students. Accepted freshmen can receive two to four years of college tuition to any Florida college or university. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in mentor sessions, College and Career Success Coaching sessions, and college and career readiness workshops.

Within the past year, all applicants must have maintained a “C” or better in all classes, have no more than 10 unexcused absences per semester, no more than one in-school suspension per quarter, and no out-of-school suspensions.

Students must qualify financially for free and/or reduced lunch based upon USDA income eligibility guidelines; Click here for the 2021-22 income eligibility requirements. Applying freshmen are required to be a United States Citizen or a resident alien with a permanent social security number, and not a temporary ID.

Class of 2025 will need to apply through the application portal where they can find required documents. Click here to go to the application portal. Students will also have access to the Teacher Recommendation Form for any teacher of their choice, to rate their skills and aptitudes.

Teachers are encouraged to share the link with their classes and through Canvas.

Only 10 applicants will be selected so interested students should not hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity given by Take Stock in Children.
