Encanto’s powerful message

Mirabel’s Journey to Acceptance

Walt Disney has produced many heartfelt movies throughout the years. On November 24,
2021, a spectacular movie, Encanto (rated PG), was released.

Encanto tells the tale of a magical family, the Madrigals, who are hidden in the mountains of
Colombia, living in their enchanted house that resides in a village called Encanto. Every family
member in the Madrigal family has unique abilities that match their personality, all except
Mirabel. As the only family member with no powers, she demonstrates that she can be
remarkable without powers.

The main cast consists of Stephanie Beatriz as the protagonist Mirabel and Jessica Darrow as
Mirabel's older sister, Luisa. The character Bruno is voice acted by John Darrow, and the
grandmother, Abuela Alma, is voiced by María Cecilia Botero.

Many Disney movies have magic, adventure, family, and love, like Encanto. However, concepts
such as self-recognition, self-approval, character development, and self-love are usually
neglected in films. Most Disney story plots also center on a male protagonist saving the damsel
in distress or the world. Encanto discontinued this trend by changing the scenery, making the
film stand out to the audience with the importance of family and self-journey.
From the beginning of the film, the demonstration of being different and unspecial in a family is
portrayed. As an optimistic person, Mirabel looks for ways to fit into the family time and time
again. However, proving she belongs is not easy when the difference between her and her
family is significant because of their powers.
Throughout multiple character experiences, the movie teaches lessons that are especially
important for kids ages six and up to learn. The message through these actions is not to regard
a person's value by their strength and appearance, but to accept who they are and not raise the
bar of expectations high.
Encanto's story is only a part of the fame it has gained. Its song We Don't Talk About Bruno,
composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been on top of Billboards Hot 100 for four weeks. This
success gives Disney its second-ever chart-topping single from an animated movie and the first
film to lead the top 100 for various weeks.

As popular as the song is, the whole soundtrack has spent some time in the Billboards. The film
was a success, resulting in it being nominated for an Oscar for its animated feature film and
original song and music.

For a child-friendly family movie, Encanto displays the importance of accepting people for who
they are, including the closest people to themselves, like family.
