Entering a New Semester

What’s to be expected

As the first semester ends with midterm exams and a well-deserved 2-week winter break, Deerfield Beach High School prepares to enter the second half of the 2022-2023 school year. The second semester will officially begin on Monday, January 16th, and it consists of the 3rd quarter, 4th quarter, and final exam grades.

Once the first semester ends and the second semester begins, students will be able to view their updated GPAs and class rankings on virtual counselor. Adjustments have been made to these according to their first semester grades, which will be available to view on virtual counselor after February 3rd.

The beginning of the second semester entails more than just new beginnings in academics, it also means new beginnings in other aspects. For example, once the student body returns from winter break, students can try out for a plethora of sports including baseball, flag football, softball, tennis, track & field, boys’ volleyball, and water polo.

DBHS Senior and water polo team member Krystal Walford says, “I have been looking forward to the water polo season since it ended last year, and we are going to have an amazing 2023 season”.

The second semester is also when exams will take place. Though exams will not happen until the end of the year, now is the time for students in all grades to start preparing for the different exams each

student will take. All students will be taking their final exams and EOCs in May and June while juniors will have the opportunity to take the SAT in school for free in March.

The second semester is almost here, and it has a lot in store for DBHS. For students who would like to access virtual counselor and pinnacle, they can be accessed through clever.
