 Fighting For The Case

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

In a world of mystery and suspense, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has come to life from just a book series by Holly Jackson, to a TV show of the same name, directed by Dolly Wells. The first book was released on May 2, 2019, followed by its second book, “Good Girl, Bad Blood” and its final book, “As Good as Dead.” This live-action series aired its first season based on the first book on BBC on July 1, 2024. It didn’t reach Netflix in America until August 1, 2024. The main character, Pip, is played by Emma Myers, also known for her character Enid, on Netflix Original TV show, Wednesday.

One of Holly Jackson’s bestsellers, this story begins with a 17-year-old girl named Pip. Short for Pippa Fitz-Amobi, who is determined to solve an unusual case that occurred five years earlier in her town Fairview, for her senior thesis project. The case states a girl named Andie Bell who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh in Fairview. But Pip thinks otherwise.

Throughout this investigation, Pip not only gets closer to finding out the truth but also gets her life threatened the more she investigates. Starting as a school project, into a deep spiral on whether the town she’s known for years is really what she thinks it is.

“I was hooked on this series when dangerous things were happening to the main character, such as when she was stalked in the woods and weird scenarios started piling up only for it to connect all together in a very messed up way,” said DBHS tenth grader Savitha Singh.

Pip finds clues and evidence that change everything. But amid the suspenseful investigation, she grows new connections, especially with a boy named Ravi (played by Zain Iqbal). Who helps Pip on her journey to find the truth about who really killed Andie Bell. Her friends and family witness Pip as she goes out of her way and safety to solve this case.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was filmed in Somerset and Bristol, England. The producers greatly appreciate the cast members because of how well they embody their characters. As Holly Jackson said, “I am so unbelievably excited that Emma is our Pip. She is phenomenal, and this role was truly always meant to be hers. And we found our perfect Ravi in Zain.” Although there are many parts to this series, it has not been renewed for season two yet. But many fans anticipate seeing the next two books in the live-action series.
