Deerfield takes on West Boca in this year’s homecoming game

Deerfield Beach High has done a lot to prepare for the 2022-2023 season, but one of the most eventful games of the year is the homecoming game. The Bucks will be going against West Boca Raton High School. The Beach Boys have been putting in hard work for this game.

“Nobody wants to lose a game,” junior defensive end Trevon Chisolm said. “Especially when it’s one of the most attended regular season games of the year. We’re going to go out there and get the win for our fans.”

So far, the Bucks have played five games this year. They lost 37-0 to Colquitt County in the preseason game on August 20th. They faced off against Fort Lauderdale High in their first regular season game of the season and accepted defeat, losing 23-15. Deerfield bounced back and received their first win of the year against the Coral Glades Jaguars, winning 34-7.

“We needed that win to get the ball rolling,” senior cornerback and team captain Patrick Darelus said. “Now we need to keep that same energy for the rest of the season.”

After getting the taste of sweet victory, the Stranahan Dragons beat Deerfield in a close game, winning 22-18. At this point, the Bucks were 1-2 on the season and were looking for a way to get back on track.  Then, on September 16, the Everglades Gators came to Butler Stadium to play against Deerfield. The Bucks handled the Gators in typical Deerfield fashion and won 50-12, bringing their regular season record to 2-2.

“It felt good to get back on the field,” senior quarterback Ezekiel Nguyen said. “Now we’re preparing to play in the homecoming game and we’re going to show out in front of the fans.”

This is an important game for Deerfield, not only because it will be one of, if not the most watched game of the season for the Bucks, but winning this game would put the varsity football team in a better position for a deeper playoff push.

“It’s going to be fun playing in front of your home crowd when their spirit is up,” sophomore running back Shawn Paschall said.

The game will be on Monday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Deerfield Beach High School. Come out for the most eventful game of the year and show some Buck Pride.
