Former Buck Brandon Powell to Suit Up for Rams in Super Bowl LVI

For the second consecutive season, Deerfield Beach High School will be represented in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 56 is a highly anticipated game with one of the biggest audiences in sports history. Although this year neither team is from Florida, the players, more specifically one, will be getting the support of Deerfield Beach High behind him.

Brandon Powell is the wide receiver and kicks returner for the Los Angeles Rams in this year’s big game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Brandon Powell has had a significant impact on the Rams this season. In nine games played, he totaled 11 punt returns for 212 yards and one touchdown, and 12 kick returns for 279 yards.

This is Powell’s third year in the National Football League (NFL). He has played for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, and now the Los Angeles Rams. With the Lions, he had 11 receptions for 129 yards in six games. Powell scored the only two receiving touchdowns of his career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Brandon Powell is one of seven NFL players and the second to go to the Super Bowl from Deerfield Beach High. Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, New York Giants cornerback Aaron Robinson, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Strowbridge, Pittsburgh Steeler cornerback James Pierre, Chicago Bears wide receiver Riley Ridley, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul.

Last year, Jason Pierre-Paul, outside linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, won his second super bowl, defeating the Chiefs, 31-9. His first ring came from a victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 46, winning 21-17.

The Rams play the Bengals on February 13th, 2022, to find out who this season’s champion will be. Los Angeles, headlined by quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp will face off against Cincinnati, headlined by quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Jamarr Chase. The Rams enter as the favorite to win the Super Bowl, but only time will tell, as there have been many upsets in the playoffs this year. Brandon Powell will represent DBHS and hope to bring a ring back home.
