Events and other fun activities during December
As the days get shorter and a very slight chill enters the South Florida air, students across Broward County, specifically Deerfield Beach, are eagerly awaiting the start of winter break. This year the break promises to be a max of relaxation, festive activities, and community spirit. From the halls of Deerfield Beach High School to the local beaches, the holiday season is set to be a vibrant one.
“I’m very excited about winter break,” says Makayla Joseph, a sophomore at DBHS. “I get to relax, celebrating Christmas and spend time with friends without school stress.”
Deerfield Beach is already showing its holiday spirit with various events planned throughout December. The city is hosting Ocean Way Holiday where Deerfield Beach High’s very own Key Club has volunteering opportunities for that event. Additionally, DBHS has planned a spirit week next week. Starting with Grinch vs. Santa on Monday, followed by Holiday Accessories on Tuesday, Ugly Sweaters on Wednesday, Polar Express Character on Thursday and closing with Matching Pajamas on Friday.
“I like the spirit weeks leading up to winter break. They’re a fun way to show school and holiday spirit,” said Jayden Pierre, a sophomore.
For many, winter break is a time to recharge after a busy semester. Whether it’s spending time with family, catching up on favorite books and movies, or simply enjoying the Florida weather, students are looking forward to the break. Others will be taking advantage of the time off to volunteer in the community, with opportunities available at local food banks and shelters, helping those in need, including Nina’s Place in Deerfield Beach.
As the year comes to a close, the winter break and Christmas season in Broward County after a chance to celebrate, connect, and give back. From festive events to quiet moments of reflection, the holiday spirit is alive and well at Deerfield Beach and beyond.
