The origin of swag
Hood trap is by far one of the most popular sub-genres of underground music, but it wasn’t always like that.
The hood trap sub-genre originated from Chicago drill music, mixed with Lil B and Soulja Boy; essentially, it is a blend of cloud rap, jerk, and drill. It was created somewhere between 2020 and 2021, and very few knew about it. The hood trap sub-genre is intended to sound straightforward, with a few voice samples scattered throughout, but over the years, it has evolved and taken on many different forms.
The creator of the hood trap sub-genre is Kashpaint. He has been making beats for a while now. He started off by making XXXTentacion-type beats, going under the name Xenium. Then, around 2021, he listened to a Chicago drill beat by Sharpboi, and from that point on, he began making hood trap. Although Kashpaint created the hood trap sub-genre, he isn’t the only person to thank. Some other notable people in the hoodtrap scene include Xion Orion, Siah Price, Chaosysl, Vyztu, Ekebaby, Userone1x, Sharpboi, Boxxy, and Hellarixh. Essentially, while Kashpaint helped create the hood trap sub-genre, SharpBoi influenced it.

Some collectives that associate themselves with hood trap, both popular and a bit more niche, are #tht (Tru Hood Trap) 1c34, Domain 6, and Swag University. There’s not much information out there about Tru Hood Trap other than the fact that there are a little over 30 people in the group, some notable members are Sharpboi, Siah Price, Vyztu, Userone1x, Qvvlss, and X2mercy. On the other hand, 1c34 is by far the most popular out of the ones that were named. They’ve been around since 2021. Some popular members are Xaviersobased, Ss3bby, Cranes, and Ksuuvi. Now, Domain 6 is the smallest collective, consisting of 2 people, being Qvvlss and X2mercy. Swag universty is the largest with 1000 people, some important names are Sharpboi, Qvvlss, X2mercy, and Siah Price.
Not many people know about the hood trap sub-genre in DBHS, but the people who do have said, “I found out about hood trap through Nettspend” Who is a popular rapper who used to make jerk/hood trap music.
