Deerfield Beach High’s Boys basketball team prepares for the upcoming season
Following last year’s COVID season, where Deerfield Beach only played four games, the Bucks will look to start fresh this season. Players have been conditioning for the entire month of October, preparing for the upcoming season.
“Lots of running,” Coach Kenny Brown said. “For conditioning, they warm up on the bleachers and then have a series of different running exercises.”
Conditioning allows players to gain stamina to be physically fit in preparation for the season. Athletes who haven’t participated in the conditioning will have difficulty keeping up with their competitors.
“I feel like Coach Brown is conditioning us well; it’s really getting me in shape,” junior forward Damerius Summers said.
Both the coach and the players anticipate a successful season. To ensure their success, the Bucks have been practicing four to six days a week. They are committed to bring Deerfield a state championship.
“I expect this season to be the best we have ever had. In order for us to be victorious, the players have to put in the work at practice and play to the best of their ability in the games,” Brown said.
The Bucks are striving to reach the state championship and are working to enhance their skills on the court. Making small changes every practice will aid them in achieving their goals. The team built chemistry over the years by communicating on the court and holding activities outside of school.
“My teammates have pushed me to become a better version of myself. We are building a brotherhood by spending quality time with each other,” Summers said.
Deerfield will look to start their season off on the right note as they play a home game against the Piper High Bengals on Monday, November 22nd. The Bucks will begin practice on November 1st to train for the upcoming 16 games of the regular season.
