2024-25 Basketball season expectations
As the Deerfield Beach High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams prepare for the upcoming season, they are fueled by the experience from last year. The boys’ team, after coming from an upsetting season with a record of 5-19, is back this year with talented hard workers who are ready to make this season better than the last. In contrast, the girls’ team had a better record of 14-9 and is prepared to have a winning record yet again this year.
“Last year we as a team were not physically or mentally prepared for the competition we had to face, but now after all the training and work we’ve been putting in we will be better,” sophomore Jair Jimenez said.
Jair does not think that the seniors last year were the leaders the team needed to keep the team on task and prepare for the games they had. The rest of the team thinks the same thing as now they are all holding each other accountable for being mentally and physically prepared. The girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are also conditioning their minds and bodies as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“We have more talent and chemistry than last year and just matured as a whole,” senior Connor John said.
This year’s teams have more old players than new ones, so they already have built-up chemistry on and off the court. The new players who did arrive are full of talent and have shown they are ready to work even harder to prove they are just what these teams need. The boys’ team wasted time in practice and was not serious before games last year, which led to their losing record, but this year, they are more mature and serious about practice and preparation.
The boys’ team is ready to flip the script and come out with a winning record, while the girls’ team is looking to uphold the standards of their record. With both teams working together to get themselves prepared for the upcoming season; this year is looking to be a great one.
