 Indian Native Americans

Celebrating Native Americans heritage month

It is about time to celebrate the American Indian heritage month. November is National Native American Heritage Month, which people love to celebrate every year. A lot of people learn about different Native American tribes like Cherokee, Crow, Odawa, Paiute, and many more. These tribes all have different aspects when it comes to celebrating, but one thing they all have in common is feasting together with friends and family.

Most people when they celebrate Native Americans, they read Native American literature books to learn more about them and dig deeper into it. Native Americans are also known by the powwow, a lot of people do their research on the powwow and are amused by it. The powwow is a gathering with dances held by many Native Americans and first nations communities. The fact that people celebrate and try to learn more about the Native Americans shows the true spirit of Native Americans Heritage month. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Indigenous people, who were the original owners of the land in the United States.

“Native American Heritage is important to celebrate to make sure anyone with Native American decent knows their culture. I know a few people that celebrate this month, and they love eating the food and being with family” says DBHS sophomore, Christoph Powell.

The biggest part on celebrating for Native Americans is reuniting together and eating. On the day of the celebration people make wild rice, fried bread, three sisters stew, beans, cedar plank salmon, berries, bison, maize, and more. People spend quality time with their family and friends. They go to the museum and looks at indigenous art. The most well-known museum is the Dever Art Museum in Colorado. It was one of the first art museums in the US to start collecting Indigenous art, also the Smithsonian’s National Muesum of the American Indian which has the most Native American literature. While they are looking at the art, some of the people there listen to Indigenous music and enjoy it.

Celebrating Native American heritage month has been significant to the whole country. The traditions, celebrating and learning about it continue to grow significantly throughout every year. Some splendid examples of places that host huge celebrations are in New Mexico, Hawaii, Oregon, Alaska and South Dakota. They also hold festivals for people to notice the Native Americans traditions and to learn more about them. They welcome anyone to the Native American community. While it continues to grow and expand even more throughout the years, they hope everyone embraces it and has a lot of fun with learning the Native Americans.
