Does High School Really Prepare you for the Future?
High school is a time for students to think about their future careers. It is a chance for them to explore different options and discover what interests them. Students should also pay attention to the preparations needed for their chosen fields. This way, they can avoid starting their majors without the right background or skills.
“It is the first step you take as a teenager in learning how to do things, and it teaches you many skills that stick with you and can help you in the future,” said Deerfield Beach High School sophomore Shelsie Escarment.
There are many debates about high school and how teachers decide to teach their students, as well as the subjects students need to require. It is important to recognize that not everything in life is directly caused or influenced by high school preparation. The experiences and lessons gained during those four years often impact the student, providing a foundation that can be revisited in the future.
“High school gives us education and tools to prepare us for when we go into the real world,” said DBHS freshman Taleeceya Eady.
High school prepares students for the future in many ways, and each experience is unique based on personal background and support. For some, it teaches skills needed for jobs, while subjects like math and communication help build important thinking and problem-solving abilities. Others view high school as a path to college, where the challenges faced in classes and activities can enhance college applications and prepare students for further education.
Whether or not a person decides to pursue a big career and go to college, they learn a thing or two in high school. It can range from academic discoveries, personal discoveries, social discoveries, and even emotional discoveries. High school, even if it doesn’t necessarily teach a student everything they need for the future, creates a stepping stool to manage life a little easier.
