Holiday Break Plans
The Christmas season brings families together for rest and celebration after a year of hard work. The smell of cookies fills the kitchen, and decorated trees and lights illuminate not only homes but entire streets. Just like students who, after months of effort, finally look forward to a well-earned vacation at home.
If you ask around, opinions vary depending on people’s views. Some of them plan their vacations in advance, others don’t and just go with the flow. But if a general analysis is done, during the holiday break, families often try to engage in various traditions with the purpose of strengthening family bonds and creating moments that will be remembered afterwards.
Just like that, decorating the Christmas tree is the most well-known activity worldwide, and it is also very important because it allows people to spend time together while placing ornaments on the tree.
Going to the kitchen, momentarily forgetting the small mess from the previous process of preparation, the cookies are baked to perfection, then served to everyone, or at least to those who enjoy the delicious, crunchy exterior and soft interior of these cookies, accompanied by a glass of warm milk.
Shopping also becomes essential, and visiting Christmas markets can become something fun as well as entertaining for both adults and children, who, when going to the markets, can experience different cultures and traditions. During visits to Christmas markets, someones take the opportunity to do the necessary shopping, especially when there are already so many plans made, like gifting gifts to others. The tradition usually varies, but many families exchange gifts with each other so that no one is excluded, and the expense is not only for the adults. It’s a Christmas exchange planned in advance.
Activities are kept at home for many, as it is a time of joy, happiness, as well as gratitude, when everyone can be together in one place. But some families decide to organize trips together and spend the holidays in another part of the country, although it is true that a large percentage love to spend the holiday abroad and experience a Christmas with different customs and knowledge from what they are used to.
Asking around to students, some of them said staying home is what they actually want to do, because they need a good rest after all the stress of studying. Although some, despite feeling the need for a break, have recommended traveling, either abroad or within the country.
One of the freshmen recommends going on a family trip, because that’s what he did and enjoyed during the Thanksgiving break. But now, for the Holidays, his plans are different. “My plans for the Holidays are staying home and enjoying the food that my mom is gonna make. I also want to relax”. Said DBHS freshman Luis Figueroa.
Everyone is getting ready for Christmas, and no matter how traditions differ across cultures and families, the holidays always bring a joyful atmosphere that unites everyone. It is without a doubt the perfect season.
