2023 Paris Fashion Week

The fashion industry has been around for ages and has changed and evolved since fashion designers have produced many shows and runways everyone can enjoy. Now, a fan favorite has resurfaced for Fall 2023.

It is finally here, the pinnacle of fashion: Paris Fashion Week. This year’s Paris Fashion Week has been reborn with new looks. The 2023 Paris Fashion Week was from September 25th to October 3rd and showcased expensive clothing from brands like Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Schiaparelli, Dior, and many more.

Fashion Week was packed all week from morning to night featuring designers and shows all over the spectrum of fashion. Many designers and brands can be seen, such as Marie Adam-Leenaerdt, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Schiaparelli, Pierre Cardin, Loewe, Vivienne Westwood, Balenciaga, Valentino, Mugler, and Chanel. Along with many more amazing designers and brands coming out to showcase their 2023 fashion lineup.

This year, the Kardashian-Jenner crew has taken over the runways and the front rows of many performances, showing support for the models. Many celebrities stepped out in style to see the 2023 Paris Fashion Week lineup. Letitia Wright, Elle Fanning, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Cher, and many others were spotted in the audience.

With all the success of Paris Fashion Week, there was bound to be some trouble afoot. For Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing, it was his unlucky day. The clothes that were for the Paris Fashion Week show scheduled for September 27th, were reported stolen one morning. A total of 50 Balmain pieces were taken that day. According to the French Ministry, vehicle thefts in France became more of an issue in 2022. 133,800 vehicles were stolen the year prior. However, the show still went on. The staff members worked late nights and early mornings. They recovered 70 percent of the original looks for the fashion show. According to spectators, the Balmain line looked more gorgeous than ever.

This story has got its happy ending, but for some, it is safe to say that not all is well in the kingdom of fashion. Many consumers stress the importance of diversity and are upset at the issue of body inclusivity. This year it seems that the shows have taken a step back in time, reverting to their old ways of casting only skinny, smaller models. Model casting has made it very clear to be skewed on the thinner side, and at some shows these past days it has become more prominent.

“I wish we could have seen more body types walk down the runway. For years and years, we have seen the same thing over again, despite the designs looking very unique, the body types are not,” said Deerfield Beach High School senior Chyla Liburd-Salmon.

Some brands have made efforts to combat this issue. Balmain, Chloé, and Chanel made efforts to include non-stereotypical models, but overall, the casting reverted to what consumers knew of in -the past. But not all was wrong at this year’s Paris Fashion Week. Things are looking up for the newest Lagos Fashion Week. It is a fashion show that focuses on the Nigerian and African diaspora of the fashion industry. It took place from October 25th through October 29th. It features designers like Clan, AAKS, Abigail Ajobi, Banke Kuku, and more.

Creativity bursts throughout designers’ clothing all the time. It can finally be displayed at these fashion shows. Many buyers and consumers are ready to gather and see what comes for fashion week next year.
