Live or Die

Do you want to play a game?

A woman wakes up in a state of confusion inside an abandoned warehouse. Suddenly, a puppet rides in with a tape that begins to play, signaling the start of the game. The tenth installment of the Saw franchise, titled Saw X, is back, serving as a direct sequel to Saw I and a prequel to Saw II.

This movie takes place a few weeks after the events of Saw I and is supposed to recreate the gritty, graphic feel of the first few movies. The filmmakers wanted the audience to feel like they were watching one of the older films with the same lighting and colors.

Jigsaw, or John Kramer, was told he had an incurable type of cancer and that he would die in the next three months. In an attempt to remove his cancer-causing tumor, he is referred to a doctor who seems to have a cure for him and many others. Jigsaw realizes that the doctors aren’t actually doctors and are running a scam where they take advantage of sick people and tell them they will remove their tumors, except they don’t, so he traps them.

The movie was released in theaters on September 29th, 2023. The cast and fans were very excited about the film, which was heavily promoted. Many fans say that the movie was just what they wanted, with a nostalgic feel and bringing back the main antagonist, Jigsaw.

“I’m really excited for Jigsaw to return. My favorite part of the movie trailer is when all of the cast is together in the same room,” says DBHS sophomore Zeryc Chalmers.

The Saw franchise has made its return with this new-old-style movie, and the fans could not wait. The new traps include a sort of head trap, an eye trap, shackles, and even more exciting needle hands. Many were expecting the great minds behind the scenes to focus on the journal Jigsaw seems to write in throughout the movie. This journal includes some of the brilliant trap ideas and their sketches.

Since the new Saw movie was announced, fans were eagerly searching for tickets and will be able to witness this fantastic and fascinating classic movie in theaters. All that’s left is to grab some popcorn and prepare for the gore fest.
