Love Blooms

Celebrating Love in All Forms

Valentine’s Day is here, and lovebirds across the world are always finding new and more creative ways to celebrate it. While traditional flowers and chocolates continue to dominate the lists, a lot of couples have moved to customized experiences to make the day all the more special. Restaurants have already started showing signs of being fully booked, and florists see a spike in orders. Nonetheless, more than the material things, this Valentine’s Day is about meaningful gestures.

Student Sophia Martinez took her boyfriend on a surprise scavenger hunt around the neighborhood. “I wanted to do something different, so I just created a list of stuff that is special to us. Each spot had a little note leading to the next.”

For others, the holiday is an exercise to strengthen bonds beyond romance. Student Mark Vazquez, for instance, spent his day with his mom. “Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. It’s about love overall,” he said. “Me and my mom baked cookies and watched our favorite movies. These are the moments that mean the world to me.”

Lately, there has been a shift in consumer habits, as more people prefer personalized experiences over physical gifts. Travel agencies have seen increased bookings for romantic getaways whereas craft stores have seen a growth in sales for do-it-yourself (DIY) gift materials.  As the day unfolds, one thing stays clear; whether it is an elaborately big surprise or a quiet moment with loved ones, Valentine’s Day continues to be a celebration of love in all its beautiful forms.
