A look at the 2025 Grammy nominees
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards taking place on February 2, 2025, in Los Angeles will determine which artists made 2024 a memorable year for the music world. The list of nominees, announced on November 8th, reveals a diverse blend of genres, backgrounds, and talent. From established icons to rising newcomers, every artist will put up serious competition, setting the stage for a night of celebration on February 2nd.
There are many categories people are eager to watch during the ceremony, one of them being the Album of the Year category. For Album of the Year, the Academy chose eight artists to highlight: Billie Eilish’s “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” Charli XCX’s “BRAT,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet,” Andre 3000’s “New Blue Sun,” Jacob Collier’s “Djesse Vol. 4,” Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” Taylor Swift’s “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT,” and Beyonce’s “COWBOY CARTER.”
This year, Beyonce picked up 11 new nominations, making her the most nominated artist in Grammy history, surpassing her husband Jay-Z. Her unexpected country album and lead single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” dominated this year’s list by having the most nominations. Following were Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven.
One artist everyone should look out for is the rapidly rising Chappell Roan. Chappell was nominated for her first Grammy this year and earned a spot in all four of the Big Four categories (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist). Her debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” and hit single, “Good Luck, Babe!” earned her six Grammy nominations. Tied with her is Sabrina Carpenter, who was also nominated in the Big Four, and Taylor Swift.
Record of the Year nominations has stirred up some controversy because of the use of AI in the nominated Beatles song “Now and Then.” The song uses artificial intelligence to complete the late John Lennon’s demo. However, many believe that a song containing AI should not be qualified to win a Grammy. Others say it did not contribute to the art or musical quality of the record as it was only used as a tool.
As the music world builds excitement for the ceremony, all eyes will soon be on those who take home the gold. The diverse range of talent across genres showcases how the music landscape has evolved. With so many deserving nominees, the 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony promises a memorable night for artists and fans alike.
