DBHS McJrotc annual military ball
This school year, the DBHS MCJROTC military ball was held at Genesis Events on March 21, 2025. The military ball is a tradition observed by all branches of the United States military. It is a formal event attended by military personnel and their guests, featuring various ceremonies to commemorate the evening. This formal ball is a cherished tradition not only for military branches but also for college-level ROTC programs and high school programs such as JROTC.
A special table is set up at the venue of the DBHS McJrotc military ball. That table is a solemn tradition that symbolizes and honors soldiers who are missing an action or prisoners of war. Specific items are placed on the table to embody different things. For instance, a Lemon Slice is placed on the table to depict the bitter fate of those captured and missing. The White Tablecloth represents the purity of their intentions when answering their country’s call to arms. Lit Candle: represents the unwavering hope for their return. An Inverted Glass symbolizes their inability to join In the festivities. Many more items are placed on the table to depict the feelings of both those who are or were prisoners of war and missing actions and their loved ones who still yearn for their return.
DBHS Junior Kanesha Mason said, “I believe that the military ball is a recognition of the achievements and participation of the cadets in the program.”
Another big part of the evening is the awards ceremony. Many cadets were called up and received awards that testify to their character and leadership within the program. The awards ceremony is a way to congratulate and recognize the cadets who have earned their awards by devoting their time and efforts to the program.
In addition, the DBHS McJrotc annual military ball this year was the celebration of one of their instructors who will retire this school year, Master Gunnery Sergeant Alberto Gomez. The cadets prepared speeches that thanked him for his contributions. Before the military ball, each class in the program was taught ethics and how to conduct oneself properly at a formal event. Dinner was catered, and there was a variety of drinks and sodas. The rest of the evening was spent celebrating and enjoying the night.
DBHS sophomore Milena Medeiros said, “This is not my first military ball. This is my second, what I really enjoyed about it was that everybody was having fun, the music was great, and I extremely loved the Photo Booth!”
