Track & field season preview
Sprinting into the season with four meets finished, the Bucks are eager to keep competing. Their hard work is paying them well and they’re off to a strong start. They’re on track to keep thriving throughout the season.
“Overall, they were successful meets. Everyone has been settling into the season and doing better than they may have anticipated. However, we still have room for progress, and everyone is working hard to get there,” said Deerfield Beach High School senior Nayati Smith.
Coral Springs hosted the first meet with an outstanding performance by DBHS freshman Dawens Toussaint, who placed first in the boys’ long jump final. Nathan McBridge and Shawn Paschall bolted through the 100-meter dash, coming in second and third.
“Our coaches are constantly pushing us to work hard. They are definitely making us better athletes,” said DBHS senior Anthony Sevilla-Meza.
Along with the hard work, the runners credit their success to the support of their teammates. It is important for team morale to stay positive for great outcomes in competitions.
“My favorite aspect of my team is the chemistry. We are always uplifting one another, despite how tired we may get,” said Nayati Smith.
On March 8th at Blanche Ely High School, a sheer determination was shown by each runner, with many improving their time from the previous meet. Special recognition to DBHS junior Larissa Francois for coming in first in the girl’s shot put. As well as Raynaldo Narcisse, for winning first place in the 1600-meter dash.
For those curious about the upcoming schedule, track and field dates will be posted and updated on the DBHS website under “Athletics”.
