Returning for yet another year of overseeing DBHS
Amidst the 2021-2022 school year, reappearing students might remember principal Marlow roaming around the halls daily, especially during lunch. Nevertheless, the day after Valentine’s Day, on February 15th, Principal Marlow caught the opportunity to transfer to a separate and apparently, quite the opposite position.
No one was to take over the principal role for the rest of the school year. However, this was not an issue for much longer. As Jon Marlow described, “My most recent position was very slow-paced. That job was more compliance than creative.” Of course, this aesthetic works for many people, but not Marlow.
According to Mr. Marlow, leading a high school displayed a unique and unprecedented rush from attending a student assembly to a facility meeting to ensuring clean air.
This aspect was something he missed from Deerfield Beach High School.
“It’s just who I am,” says Jon Marlow.
But who is Jon Marlow? There’s a reason activities, clubs, and sports are always thriving. Marlow is passionate about the idea that every student should be able to do at least one thing they enjoy outside of schoolwork. Amongst other initiatives, The Communications and Broadcast Arts program led by Jeffrey Romance is something he has an affinity for.
Speaking of Mr. Romance and staff members contributed hugely to the return of Principal Marlow. They commenced the students’ awareness of the benefits of Marlow during his time as principal, which they then put into letters directed to the school board.
Over the summer, the school set this process in motion just in time for the first day of school when the Marching Band has grown in numbers; countless parents are volunteering, and there is recent technology and the firm discipline of new regulations.
With Marlow back students can once again catch a glimpse of him in the halls or at lunch checking up on the student body.
