WNBA 2024-2025 finals 

The stage is set, the lights are bright, and the best in women’s basketball are battling for that silver and shiny silver trophy. As the New York Liberty come off a championship win, they are looking to strike again this year. The New York Liberty is coming into the season with high expectations; there are other teams looking for revenge this season.

The shootout. As the 2024-2025 WNBA playoffs start, the Minnesota Lynx will face off against the Golden State.

Valkyries, the Lynx put the series away 2-0 and will advance to the next. Meanwhile, in Pheonix the defending champs are going back in forward with the Mercury, the champs couldn’t hold on, and the Mercury come out on top 2-1. The Las Vegas Aces defeat the Seattle Storm in a tough fight, which leads to the series ending 2-1. The Aces will advance. In the meantime, the Indiana Fever were in a tough fight with the Atlanta Dream, but the Dream couldn’t pull through, which led to a 2-1 series; Indiana advances. As the second round of the playoffs kicks off, the Mercury takes a huge 2-1 lead on the Lynx. Minnesota couldn’t hold on tight enough, and after getting sent home, Mercury takes the series 3-1. The Mercury are advancing to the WNBA finals. 

 Who will take home that WNBA trophy?  As both teams prepare, Team Captain Jewell Loyd  said, “keeping their composure, doing all the little things right, being relentless and putting team over self”.

Being a team player and keeping your head up is key in any sport. But little did you know, the underdogs are coming for it; the Mercury are putting in a lot of work for this game. Coming in as the underdog, the Mercury is going against a lot of adversity right now. Mercury’s Head Coach Nate says, “No one has had expectations for us except ourselves.  The pride and the togetherness for such a new group, it’s pretty impressive.”

Coach Nate and the Mercury know their problems their going to face going into this series. Can they pull through? As the series begins, the Mercury falls short by 3 points, 1-0. Aces take game 1. How will Phoenix respond to this loss? Team Captain Kahleah Copper states, “Back to the drawing board,” to make adjustments.  As game 2 goes on, the Mercury can’t seem to keep up with the Aces; Phoenix falls short once again. 2-0 Aces with the lead. Things aren’t looking good for the Mercury; meanwhile, the Aces are keeping their foot on the pedal. A’ja Wilson said, “Just go get it done” after taking a 3-0 lead. Does Mercury have what it takes to come back? We will see. As the game goes into halftime, the Mercury are far behind by 16 points. Does Mercury have what it takes to cut this lead short?

The Aces are keeping their foot on the pedal and leaving it there. The clock hits 0:00, the Aces are jumping and crying for joy, and the Las Vegas Aces are your WNBA champions. With the Aces sweeping the Mercury 4-0 and winning 97-86, the Mercury will be back for revenge next year. but will the Las Vegas go back-to-back, or will some else hold the WNBA trophy next year?
