Refuse to Lose

Start of 2023-2024 football season

At Deerfield Beach High School, football has become the biggest sport that students, staff, and parents come to support. There is always hefty pride shown in honor of the players and administration takes in a lot of consideration for uniforms, new gear, and transportation. Along with the football players, the marching band and cheerleading team are included in almost every game.

Last school year was thought to be a rough season for this sport as the team had an overall record of three wins and eight losses but that didn’t stop them from bringing their all this season.

“I expect to have a great season with my team and no matter what happens we will come through and win. I’m confident in the team winning this year and I want to get an offer.”, says senior Adrian Oliver.

The first game of the season proved to be a little heart-breaking as they lost to Fort Lauderdale’s Flying L’s with a 20 to zero score. However, they quickly bounced back from that game by beating Coral Glades with a 30-12 score. Their third and most recent game against Stranahan High resulted in a loss with a score of 32-14, which disappointed the Deerfield Bucks. And with that their most recent game they had heavy hearts in Georgia against Valdosta High School with the score of 0-55. Nonetheless, it did not discourage them. They came back to play Boyd Anderson, and from a loss to a win they beat Boyd Anderson 22-0. The team is still motivated and determined that they will do good and have a winning record this season as well as making it to the playoffs. The last game they played was against West Boca and they took a sad defeat with the score of 0-36. The next game will be versing DBHS’ long-term rival, the Blanche Ely Tigers.

“I expect to get faster and stronger this year… The difference between this season and our previous season will be a big difference as we expect to make It past the first round of playoffs.”, says Junior Mekhi Miller.

The DBHS boys’ football team is ecstatic and ready to be great this year. Tune in to watch and support the Bucks as they play to win. The rest of the schedule with game times and places can be found on MaxPreps.
