Recap on the fall baseball season

The Deerfield Beach Bucks had an exceptional fall ball season. Even though the fall ball season was a prelude to the spring season to see what the team could do, they did not disappoint. Baseball coach Drew Phillips believes this team is ready for the spring season and could argue this team may be one of their best teams yet. Although the team faced some tough opponents for the first few games, they stood on business and managed to come out on top. Their later games proved difficult, but they dominated for the most part.

The Bucks had a tournament at the end of fall ball where they played against teams like St. Thomas and Westminster. The team put up a fight against St. Thomas, however, was unable to pull through with the win. The Deerfield Beach Bucks’ fall ball season ended, but it gave insight to the players on the team as well as the coach.

“The tournament was a lot of success; we saw a lot of positives but also a few things that we need to work on. If we continue to train and practice the way we have been, we’ll be a problem for the other teams this year,” said DBHS senior Shane Gonzalez.

The coaches have been loving the improvement in their players. Each coach and player on the team pushes one another to their limits to get them to the best version of themselves both on and off the court. The team’s younger players are growing and developing their skills with the help of upperclassmen guiding them. Coach Phillips believes pitching was their biggest strength during the fall ball season and will continue to be their strength going into the spring season. This season proved to be a group effort as they are all on the same page, fired up, and ready to win. The coaches want the best season this year and the team is showing promising signs of that.

“We are very proud of our guys, we have come a long way, and we are excited for a very good season,” said Phillips.

Although the 2023 fall ball season did not go as expected for the Deerfield Beach Bucks, they are fully confident that they’ll be a force to reckon with during the spring season. They know what flaws they must work on and what skills they need to perfect. The Bucks are determined to win throughout the spring season as they show full effort in practices.
