Sliding into the Season

No place like home plate

As softball season is coming up, the DBHS softball bucks are prepared to win. The girls’ softball team is trying harder to be better and succeed. Much effort is being put into achieving self-improvement among the players. Passion is a huge part of the program and drives the players to be a better version of themselves.

“This year we have more funding, more players, and new coaches. We usually have about 11 girls, while this year we have 25. We also got free uniforms, hoodies, and shoes, which we have always had to pay for in the past. First, we stretch, then we run laps and run the bases, then we throw and do infield/outfield drills,” DBHS senior and right fielder Caroline Sais said.

With the amount of effort put into reviving the softball spirit, the players are more motivated than ever to keep practicing and working hard. While practicing, they do many activities to improve stamina and help memorize the different bases and directions that are needed to run towards.

“Long story short we all are beginners so just better ourselves every game,” DBHS senior and left fielder Thania Geffrard said.

Due to most of the players being new to softball, they help each other out in any way they can. This helps boost growth, confidence, and is a way the girls can bond to help each other with different skills while still practicing. However, if they do lose, the players are there to support each other and return stronger the next time they play.

The girls DBHS softball team had their first game against Cardinal Gibbons on February 21st and went home re-evaluating their game strategy. Their next home game is against Mcarthur High at 4:00 p.m. on March 10th.
