SAT prep gets a second chance
Juniors at Deerfield Beach High School were originally set to take the SAT on March 4th, but the date was officially moved to March 31. The change gives students almost a full month to prepare for one of the most important exams in their high school careers. for some, the extra time is a relief. for others, it just means staying in study mode a little longer than they expected.
The SAT, administered by College Board, tests reading, writing, and math skills and plays a significant role in college admissions. At Deerfield Beach High, sat prep has been a major focus this semester, especially for juniors starting to seriously think about college applications and scholarships.
“Honestly, I’m glad we now have extra time,” says CBA junior, Christoph Powell. “I wasn’t fully ready for March 4th so now, I can really study.”
Guidance counselors are encouraging students to use the extra weeks wisely. Some juniors are attending after-school prep sessions, while others are working through online practice tests and study guides. Teachers are also reinforcing key concepts during class, particularly in algebra and grammar, which are heavily represented on the exam.
Students’ reactions to the new date vary. Some see it as a second chance because they were not fully prepared for March 4th. Others had already been mentally committed to the original date and now need to maintain focus for a few more weeks.
“I was ready to take the SAT and now that the date changed, it kind of messed up my flow for not only the week, but the whole month,” says Kerbens Prospere, a high school junior.
SAT preparation looks different for everyone. some students take full-length practice exams to build endurance for the nearly three-hour digital test. Others focus on sections they find most challenging, such as timed reading passages or advanced math problems. Many are also using official digital tools to familiarize themselves with the online format.
Despite the change in schedule, the goal remains the same. Juniors at Deerfield Beach High are focused on achieving their best possible scores, which can open doors to scholarships, college opportunities, and future success. With March 31st approaching, students are using the extra time to prepare, practice, and make sure they are ready when the day finally arrives.
