The Start of Holiday Cheer
It has started to get colder with the thought of a beach at the back of most minds. Homes are decorated with lights, featuring drive-through light shows and fairs like Christmas Wonderland, all contributing to the festive Christmas spirit. It makes people wonder when it is the right time to start having these spirits; most begin right after Halloween or mid-November when the clocks set back, and the night eats away at the day faster. Some believe it should be saved for the start of December or shared with the spirit of Thanksgiving and have these things and spirits up when November starts.
Deerfield Beach High School senior Lupita Rodiguez said, “People should start celebrating when it gets cold, so the end of November after Thanksgiving but leading up to December. The Christmas spirit is around till the day before New Year’s.”
People celebrate at different times leading up to Christmas. Some are bitten by the holiday bug early and want the cheer and glee to last as long as it can as time passes fast. The lights and reefs on every house the more into December it gets as the Christmas spirit resonates in a time of dropping temperatures. Cool days and all things Christmas distracting foggy minds. The smell of gingerbread and the feeling of being around loved ones fill in the Christmas spirit that continues to build.
“The Christmas spirit is the feeling of being a little kid again excited about all the lights and festive music in the air. It should start the day after Thanksgiving because as it ends December is right around the corner, lasting until the new year as it’s still cold out and celebrating something to come,” said DBHS junior Yasmin Husain.
As Christmas comes looking to pop out from behind the December curtain, the spirit of Christmas will continue to spread. The trees are in place and ready to display presents for Christmas Day. No school and little to do, cheer, and festivities all around will keep the spirit strong. From the day after Thanksgiving to New Year’s, this Christmas spirit is here to stay for a little while.
