The Downfall of CW’s Riverdale

The show that lost its mind

The show that once captured everyone’s attention with its alluring mystery and drool-worthy romance has now left people baffled by the creative decisions the writers have made in the past five years since its release. Now the show has gone into a downward spiral.

Roberto Aguirre- Sacasa, the creator of Riverdale, was obsessed with Archie Comics way before its release. Aguirre- Sacasa wrote a stage play called Archies Weird Fantasy, where, the main character, Archie Andrews, would be depicted as gay. Yet, the story never hit the stage as the production team received a cease-and-desist notice a day before the show was supposed to debut.

Many viewers agree that the horrible dialogue said by characters plays a part in why it’s so hated. With cringe lines, corny jokes, and weird scenes, it’s easy to see how it’s unliked.

If it wasn’t for the horrible lines and cringe scenes, the show would have no attention at all. Yet, it keeps getting renewed for new seasons with season 7 being its last season and airing next year.

The show is highly sexualized, constantly showcasing the characters in little to barely any clothing. Although, the characters are about 16-18-year-old high school students. All characters show lots of skin for them being underage teenagers.

Riverdale began adding musicals in season two, fans loved it the first few times. However, after a few performances, it instantly got the spotlight but instead, for the wrong reasons. It became a meme and something many people made fun of.

Continuously changing plots and adding new plot lines is usual for Riverdale. As it changes a lot of relationships, storylines, and themes. Never sticking to just one idea but changing it constantly.

Queerbaiting is a marketing technique using LGBTQ+ relationships to attract more viewers. Riverdale is no stranger to queerbaiting as it sets up the characters to get intimate with the same sex. Just to lure people in, however, it’s nothing they expect.

They get flamed for every mistake they make but never learn. So much potential that could’ve been something but was ruined by poor production and management.

With all the controversies and changes, the production team has yet to achieve with their trial and error. Causing the show to majorly tank and lose plenty of viewers.
