The Final Stretch

What seniors can expect until graduation

The class of 2023 will soon see the close of high school and move on to adulthood. Walking on the stage, seniors reminisce about their days at Deerfield Beach High. However, the school year is not over, and there are still events for seniors to look forward to before receiving their diplomas.

Expected events at the end of the year are Senior Awards Night at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium and National College Signing Day at the rotunda during both lunches. The confirmed date has yet to be assigned. On April 5th, there will be another senior assembly at 1:30 p.m. along with the Senior’s Parents’ Meeting at 6:00 p.m., both in the auditorium and the same day. The Graduation Commencement Ceremony Participation Survey is also due at 3:00 p.m. through Canvas and Microsoft Forms.

The graduating class with plans involving higher education could get started on a Butler Scholarship application to aid tuition costs. To be eligible, applicants must maintain a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) in high school at DBHS and achieve at least a 2.5 in college to keep the scholarship active. The possible amount a student could earn is based on varied factors such as GPA, financial need, activity participation, and type of university attending (two years, four years, vocational, etc.)

Required documents for the Butler Scholarship include the online application, SAR Report (part of the FAFSA application), Activity Verification Form, W-9 Form, and Student Authorization and Acknowledgements. Students can find all forms here. Required materials must be e-mailed to Ms. Rodriguez at s.rodriguez@browardschools.com. The Butler Scholarship deadline is Monday, April 17th, at 2:30 p.m.

Leering away from academic obligations, seniors can celebrate the end of their last year of high school at the Senior Grad Bash held at Universal Studios, Orlando for $175 on the estore. The trip will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at noon. For more information, students may contact Ms. Hills in room 507.

For the past year, news about the most magical night of the year has been highly anticipated. Prom tickets will be $132 at the estore and must be paid by May 5th at 5:00 p.m., although prom night is May 20th. The prom theme and location are yet to be determined. Further questions can be directed to Ms. Hills.

The last thing to overcome before graduation is the final tests seniors will take in high school. Advanced Placement (AP) exams are before senior exams. AP exams will take place on May 5th- 12th. Later in the month, senior exam week will be May 23rd- May 26th. The end of course exams (EOC) for seniors is still being considered, but it will be after students have taken all exams.

After these events, graduation rehearsal and eventually graduation will commence. All seniors eligible to walk the stage are doing so for the first and last time in high school. Those who are, need to make sure all academic obligations are fulfilled in order to receive a diploma. So, make sure to waver all focus on said assignments before seniors wave the final goodbye to Deerfield Beach High School.
