The Origins Of Christmas

Most wonderful time of the year

On every 25th of December, Christmas is celebrated by billions of people all around the world. Families wake up bright and early to open presents and spend the day with friends and family. However, many people from different cultures cause Christmas to have different celebrations and traditions. In some backgrounds, it is a religious holiday originating from the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas day. It is sometimes considered a religious holiday originating from the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas day. The first recorded Christmas was on December 25th, 336 AD. Romans celebrated two occasions in December, the first is Saturnalia, a two-week holiday festival honoring their god of agriculture, Saturn. The second is the winter solstice, which is when either of the earth’s

poles is the farthest from the sun. It is commonly known as the shortest day and the longest night of the year, occurring twice yearly.

Today, it is costumery to put up Christmas trees, set up decorations, sing Christmas carols, bake cookies, watch movies, and many more joyful activities to do with friends and family to have the memorable Christmas day.

“We get together with family and friends to dance, talk, and eat. A tradition that we do is wait till twelve to open presents. The best part of Christmas is opening the presents”. DBHS senior Cristian Calderon said.

Despite the ranging variety of celebrations in every culture, presents remain a constant. Typically, the area underneath the tree is filled with presents for members of the household and on Christmas Eve or morning presents are then exchanged.

“I celebrate Christmas with my family, and we stay up to twelve to open presents. Eating the food my mom cooks during it is my favorite part of it all.” Mariliz Jimenez, a DBHS freshman, said.

Everyone celebrates Christmas differently, mainly because of different backgrounds and cultures. However, Christmas brings everyone together in the spirit of the holidays regardless of how people celebrate it.
