The Race Begins

Cross Country Season Begins

Sprinting into the season, the Deerfield Beach High Bucks had their first cross country meet on August 30th against Dillard. In cross country, the school’s score is based on each runner’s performance.

The Bucks had their first two meets, the first being on August 30th and the other on September 6th in which they performed great. The three-mile average for the boys was an impressive 26 minutes, but they hope to improve.

“As each race and season goes on, we just want to gain more endurance and improve our times on the races,” said senior Raagckab Jean Ortiz.

Senior Nayati Smith as well as others expect to cross the finish line. That has been their expectation every season and although there are newcomers on the team, the cross-country team has done just that.

“Our expectations every season has been to cross the finish line, and everyone has done just that, so I am proud of everyone for pulling through because I know running a 5k is easier said than done. I would say we are right on par when it comes to our expectations, and we are meeting them so far this season. There is still room for improvement, though,” said Nayati Smith.

The Bucks’ next meet is on September 14th at 4:00 P.M. at Quiet Waters. Monarch High School will be the host school of the game. Students are encouraged to come out and cheer on the cross country team as they continue to improve and dominate the season.
