 The Superstitions of Sports

Have you ever wondered why players may walk around their team’s Logo?  Or maybe why a player might do a ritual before a game? Well, that’s known as a superstition, known as bad luck, to walk on. As well as a ritual to ensure the player plays their best. Superstitions like these have been around for a long time, like a tradition that you can never miss.

A pre-game habit Jeremiah Gunn has before a game is to eat pickles or sunflower seeds. “The pickle is so that I don’t get cramps, and the sunflower seed is to make sure I have enough salt for energy in the game. Ritual would be to pray before a game since it helps me calm my mind and trust in myself to do well in the game”. Said Freshman Jeremiah Gunn.

A lucky item that Jeremiah’s must wear that helps with his game is Crocs. Since “They’re comfortable and look nice and help with concentration”. Jeremiah said

Jeremiah’s superstition helps keep his mind in check but also helps him have confidence when he is playing. Having confidence when playing any sport is a key element for every athlete as it helps trust their abilities, make better decisions, recover from mistakes, perform consistently under pressure, and contribute positively to the team.

Overall, superstitions in sports are really just a tradition that athletes tend not to miss or do. They are unique and can be different for everyone. It can be what the whole team follows or just one person.
