DBHS students Christmas festivities 

Christmas is a hot spot for new topic ideas and trends. Most people who celebrate the holiday have their preferences for the season and the events they plan to participate in planned out.

Traveling has become a popular trend during the Christmas season. Many people travel to go on vacation while others visit family. Traveling has become a popular trend during the Christmas season. Many people travel to go on vacation while others visit family. These activities are posted on social media platforms. TikTok and Instagram are two major platforms that develop these hot trends and reminisce about past trends. Many times holiday trends get mixed up with other past trends with the change of theme.

“The interesting trend is the one where they do scary makeup, and I like scary stuff in general”. Said DBHS Freshman Zoe Zapata, “Now that scary makeup and Christmas theme is becoming a thing again, I like it.”

Trends usually consist of two things combined. In this particular case, Christmas holiday trends have been mixed with old Halloween traditions. Some trends repeat every year, like the classic matching outfit trend. People on social media are posting matching outfits with their friends, significant others, and family members. Among these outfits is usually the category of cozy and comfortable pajamas. New, cozy, pajamas drop every Winter season. Often classy and colorful dresses, suits, and character costumes, are worn as well.

“Since the holidays are coming up, there are a lot of new Christmas trends. A Christmas trend that interests me is matching fits (outfits)”. Said DBHS Freshman Kevin Noel, “you know, I have seen people (on social media) going around, matching with each other. I think it’s pretty cool, so I’d like to match with friends and family, people that I’m close with.” 

DBHS IB freshman Taly Talyah Byfield shares the holiday trends she’s trying out, “I would love to try the ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ trend with some of my closest friends, and probably the ‘Snowman’ trend with my closest friend. I also want to try the ‘Dance in the Snow’ trend, even though it doesn’t snow over here, we’d make it work.” 

These trends that she names might seem unfamiliar to some. These are dancing trends, choreographed to a certain extent to make it easy for people to learn and have fun. Doing it with close family and friends sets people into the Christmas mood of joy and happiness.
