The backrooms are here

The new Backrooms movie came out over the summer of 2026. The Backrooms began developing on January 7, 2022, when Kane Parsons started uploading the video series titled Backrooms on YouTube. As the series gained popularity, many studios took interest in making it an actual film; in February 2023, a film adaptation of the Backrooms was announced.

“When the Backrooms movie was announced, I was genuinely so excited because I watched the whole YouTube series and liked it,” said DBHS Senior, Stecha Sifferen.

Backrooms is a film about a tangled extradimensional space that has chaotic entities, long hallways, dull yellow rooms, deformed furniture, and fluorescent lights.

DBHS Junior, Marie Joseph, said, “I like the design of the backrooms; it just gives an eerie and creepy feeling.”

The character Naren Warne, played by Avan Jogia, is a part of the Async Research Institute. He is separated from his group and gets lost in the backrooms; later, he is chased and taken out by an unseen entity. Sometime later in the film, Clark, who owns a struggling furniture store and is a failed architect, is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. When he is in the store, he notices the lights flickering at night and his TV glitching. When checking the breaker box, he sees a glowing slit in the wall,

He falls into the backrooms. Clark escapes back into the store when an unseen figure chases him. Afterward, he spends days exploring. He tells Mary, played by Renate Reinsve, about the backrooms, but she does not believe him. Clark brings Kat and Bobby, actors Lukita Maxwell and Finn Bennett, to film the backrooms; unfortunately, Bobby does not make it.

Director Kane Parsons and writer Will Soodik wanted to expand on the internet lore of the backrooms psychologically.

“I think the director and writer did a good job on turning the YouTube series into a movie; it’s really like a deep dive, and there are so many small details,” said DBHS Senior Cristopher Tovar Acosta.
